Catholic Life and Chaplaincy

Our Mission Statement 'Jesus at the Heart of All That We Do' is the essence of school . It underpins and is the golden thread in our curriculum design, is the foundation for policy decisions and essential to our whole school culture and ethos. As the children grow and mature they are encouraged to put their faith into practice in their own lives, through their daily words and actions with others and kindness and generosity to those less fortunate, both within our local community and further afield.

We provide many opportunities to enhance and develop the Catholic Life of the school including:

Prayer Days for the whole school

Year 6 Retreat

Faith Ambassadors Retreat

Liturgies and Worship - for example - Sacred Heart Feast Day, Christmas and Easter Celebrations, Leadership and Teachers - Visit of Bishop David and School Celebrations

Supporting Charities; both locally & internationally

Our Priest from our local parish is regularly invited to celebrate Mass and other liturgical events.  We attend First Friday Mass as a school. Our clergy also support during RE lessons by visiting classes to further enhance the children's knowledge and skills and to help them develop a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith.

Chaplaincy

Pupils have the opportunity to serve the school as part of the Chaplaincy Team and is open to anyone who would like to join.
The Chaplaincy team play a vital role in the Spiritual life of the school and are supported by the R.E. Co-ordinators and other school staff.

The Chaplaincy Team perform many duties throughout the year including:

Meeting monthly to discuss and deliver ideas for our spiritual growth

Encouraging the children to live out their faith in their daily living
Develop positive relationships with and beyond the school community
To support Liturgy, prayer and the spiritual life of the school
Fundraising for charities
Developing stronger links with the Parish

The Chaplaincy team has come up with some ideas of how to do this:
Prepare Gospel assemblies and Saint's day celebrations
Suggest ideas for RE resources
Help to lead liturgies
Maintain our prayer garden
Develop work with other chaplaincy teams

Chaplaincy qualities:

To listen respectfully to each other's ideas
Communicate with team members, the school and the wider parish
Encourage everyone to share their ideas when making decisions
Include everyone when making decisions
Become model representations for the school.

Lead by example and love as God loves us, especially people we may not always get along with.
