Family Worker at Sacred Heart Primary

Our Family Worker, Mrs Overton, works to improve links between the family and school, and support parents and families. A number of activities workshops and events are run throughout the year for pupil’s families and the wider community.

The Family Worker and the Family Room are based in the KS1 building. If you, your child or family need support or signposting to any professional / outside agency, please call in to make an appointment. Family Worker activities are promoted in the School Newsletter or by ParentMail, text/email.

Throughout the year the Family Worker runs a number of events as follows:

Play and Stay: This session is for Parents and Carers and preschool children, and is held on Wednesday mornings in the Family Room from 8.50 to 10.00 (term time only). The group join in with art/craft activities, singing and music, play-time and a healthy snack.

PEEP Group: This is a 6 week programme for parents and their children to enjoy together. The sessions are run during the year and younger siblings are welcome.

Afterschool Activities: Family Workers can signpost to a number of afterschool clubs such as; Dance, Taekwondo, Drama, Gymnastics, Football, Multisports and Knitting. Please enquire for more details. They also oversee a small Lunchtime Gardening Club which is for pupils in Years 3 & 4.

Other Events: During the school year, other activities are organised such as Cycle Training, Bike-it-Breakfast, Guys and Guardians Puberty talk, Family Health Event and Family Seal Workshop. These are promoted through the School Newsletter and via ParentMail.

Charity Events: We always receive wonderful support with our fundraising: Shoes for Africa, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal, Macmillan Coffee Morning and The Luton Foodbank

Pupil Support: Children sometimes need emotional support or help with developing their confidence and self-esteem, and Family Workers try to assist by running small groups during the school day; Lunch Bunch, Social Skills Group, Talking & Drawing, Chaplaincy.

Referral to Professional Services; Sometimes it is necessary to request help outside of school and Family Workers can refer or signpost to external agencies; School Nursing Service, Greenhouse Mentoring, Early Help Assessment, CAMHS.
